Positionierer
An important step in any surgical procedure is the positioning of the patient on the operating table.
Correct positioning on the one hand facilitates the surgeon’s work (and consequently can help shorten the duration of the operation), and on the other hand reduces the risk of breathing difficulties, ulcers, bedsores, and nerve injuries occurring during the operation.
The main surgical positions are the following: supine, reverse trendelenburg/trendelenburg, prone, jackknife, lateral, sitting and lithotomy.
Appropriate medical positioning devices should be used to ensure proper pressure distribution and optimal lung ventilation throughout the operation.
The advantages of using positioning cushions are: improved weight distribution, reduced localised pressures, reduced effect of friction and shear forces.
